As a dedicated home DIYer and woodworking blogger, I've always taken pride in my ability to transform living spaces into havens of creativity and comfort. From crafting hand-carved furniture pieces to meticulously designing every corner, my passion for all things DIY knows no bounds. However, amidst the whirlwind of projects that define my creative journey, there's a particular facet that has earned a special place in my heart – nurturing the lush elegance of Fiddle Leaf Fig trees.

While I've spent years honing my woodworking skills and sharing my adventures in home improvement, there's something uniquely rewarding about tending to these exquisite green companions. Beyond crafting intricate shelves and refinishing vintage cabinets, I've found solace in the delicate art of cultivating and maintaining Fiddle Leaf Figs. These trees, with their strikingly broad and vibrantly green leaves, have become an integral part of the DIY journey that defines my life.

Choosing the Right Location:

Fiddle Leaf Figs thrive in bright, indirect light. Avoid placing them in harsh, direct sunlight as it can scorch their leaves. Choose a spot near a north- or east-facing window where they can receive gentle sunlight throughout the day.

Soil and Potting:

Use a well-draining potting mix that retains moisture without becoming waterlogged. Younger Fiddle Leaf Figs benefit from annual repotting, while older ones can be repotted every 2-3 years.

Watering:

Water your Fiddle Leaf Fig when the top inch of the soil feels dry to the touch. Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot. Water thoroughly until water drains from the bottom of the pot, ensuring the entire root ball is moistened.

Humidity:

Fiddle Leaf Figs prefer moderate humidity levels. If your home is dry, consider misting the leaves or using a humidity tray. I got lucky that my Google Nest thermometer has a built in humidity sensor.

Temperature:

Fiddle Leaf Figs thrive in average room temperatures between 60-75°F (15-24°C). Avoid drastic temperature fluctuations.

Fertilizing:

Use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer) every 4-6 weeks.

Pruning and Shaping:

Regularly trim your Fiddle Leaf Fig to encourage bushier growth and maintain its desired shape. Gently wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and keep them healthy.

Troubleshooting:

Yellowing leaves could indicate overwatering, underwatering, or too much direct sunlight. Brown spots can result from inconsistent watering or improper humidity levels. If leaves droop, it might need more water or improved drainage.

Propagation:

Fiddle Leaf Figs can be propagated from stem cuttings. Let the cut ends dry before planting in a well-draining mix.

Pest Control:

Keep an eye out for pests like spider mites and mealybugs. Regularly inspect the leaves and treat with neem oil if necessary.

Remember, each Fiddle Leaf Fig is unique, and it may take some time to fully understand its needs.
